Characterizing Silicone Oil Coating and Surface Defects:

The optical properties and kinetics of silicone oil makes visualization of its distribution
within primary containers possible.

The coated hydrophobic silicone oil beads up when it comes in contact with water-based solutions in a similar way to water beading on a waxed surface. Our technology captures these silicone oil “beads” in highly detailed images. Then our machine vision algorithms quantify the silicone oil coverage and predict the performance of the syringe in the auto injector.

Our analytical method can predict plunger stalls in auto-injector devices due to silicone oil deficiency with a high degree of confidence. Our team will work with you to tailor the analysis to your specific products and containers.

On empty syringes, silicone oil presence detection has been developed.

The spray coating process of silicone oil lubrication into syringes is non-uniform. Current siliconization processes leave “droplets” and “puddles” of silicone oil on the inner surface of syringes which produce “speckles” and “ripples” visually. Our imaging method captures these visual cues as a direct indication of silicone oil presence and identifies the non- and poorly-siliconized syringes before you fill them with valuable drug product.
