ZebraSCI has developed a non- destructive automated solution to visualize silicone oil and analyze its distribution.
Pre filled syringes and cartridges in combination with auto injectors are rapidly becoming standard methods of drug delivery. Poorly distributed silicone oil within a syringe barrel can lead to deliverable volume failures in auto injectors or make it difficult for patients to manually administer the drug product. Unfortunately, the current methods of assessing silicone oil distribution cannot be directly correlated to injection performance. Other testing methods are destructive, time consuming and / or expensive.
Using the latest advances in machine vision technology, ZebraSCI in conjunction with leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies, has developed automated products for quantifying silicone oil distribution. These joint efforts have resulted in an innovative statistical approach that can predict the functionality of syringes due to defects from poor siliconization with a high degree of confidence.
Applications for this technology include:
- Quality assurance and lot release for incoming syringes prior to filling
- Second source validation
- Defining minimum siliconization consistency for device performance
- End of line inspection for comparability to auto-injector before packaging
